Where is our next road heading?

There's a big question with a lot of different answers. There are some major roads in some stage of development or debate:

Don't know where these roads are? You can always visit our GGL map!

Immokalee Road

The widening of Immokalee Rd. to six lanes from Collier Blvd (Rt. 951) out to 43 rd Ave NE near the County Fairgrounds is under way. There was a little setback with a difference of opinion between the County Commissioners and the Clerk of Courts over weather the project had to be re-bid after the County decided to expand the widening from 4 lanes to the now 6 lane project.

Fortunately the County Commissioners won in court and the 6-lane project continues. For those who have sat in the daily traffic jam on Immokalee Rd. during rush hour traffic, you can appreciate the need for the added roadway. This project is expected to be completed in mid 2007.

Oil Well Road & Camp Keais Road

Hats off to Collier County for trying to stay ahead of growth with this next project.

Oil Well Rd. is to be widened to four lanes and (in some areas) six lanes, from Immokalee Rd. to Camp Keais Rd., where the construction of the new Ava Maria University is planned.

Included in this project is the widening of Camp Keais Rd from Oil Well Rd. to Immokalee Rd. These two roads will be the main access to the University that is projected to bring an additional 20,000 people to the area.

Wilson Blvd South

Wilson Blvd. South is to be widened and extended down to approximately Rt. 75 where it will intersect with the extension of the Land Fill Rd., which starts at Collier Blvd , (Rt. 951) near the I-75 interchange. This is being done to give alternate access to Golden Gate Estates as well as an additional route for dump trucks to access the quarry and the land fill. The residents along Wilson Blvd South are understandably upset, as this will change their presently quiet dead end street into a main four-lane and six-lane road.

Collier Blvd. North (Rt. 951)

Collier Blvd North is also planned to be widened from Golden Gate Blvd to Immokalee Rd.

And more?

A project that Commissioner Colleta has been working on diligently is the extension of Collier Blvd. North (CR 951) into Lee County. Anyone who has attempted to get to Southwest International Airport between 4 & 7 pm knows full well that we are in dire need of roadways going north. This project is still in it's beginning stages and tends to be more complicated than other roads because it also involves Lee County . As always, this is in very capable hands with Commissioner Colleta .
