The Lay of the Land

Golden Gate Estates is a very different sort of place. It's not what you expect. It's more than you expect. It has palm trees and pine trees. It has high land and low. There are avenues and streets. There are canals thoughout the grid. An understanding of "the Gate" should begin with a bird's eye view. Take a look at this map.

There are lots of trees, not just palm trees! There is actually pine and oak along with the more common palmetto. There are no mountains. There are no raging whitewater rapids. There is a systematic grid of canals controlled by the water district. Most roads are paved. Some are dirt.
